Haryana's air quality drive: Chief Secretary unveils stepped-up initiatives
Haryana intensifies efforts to improve air quality, announces measures, says Chief Secretary
In its commitment to combat air pollution, Haryana's government, led by Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, is implementing a comprehensive action plan at the grassroots level. The strategy includes the introduction of electric city buses in urban areas and the statewide implementation of a smart traffic management system. Speaking at an environment department workshop, Kaushal highlighted the identification and labeling of 28 lakh vehicles with stickers, with stringent actions taken against polluting vehicles.
Reducing vehicle emissions
A crucial aspect of the initiative involves addressing vehicular emissions, with the government taking decisive steps against pollution. The introduction of electric city buses aims to curb pollution in urban centers, contributing to cleaner air for residents. Additionally, the implementation of a smart traffic management system statewide is expected to enhance efficiency and reduce congestion, further aiding pollution control.
Haryana's government has undertaken multiple measures to enhance air quality in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas. These efforts include strict actions against stubble burning, a major contributor to air pollution. Furthermore, the state achieved kerosene-free status through widespread distribution of gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme, promoting cleaner energy sources.
Industry regulation and clean transitions
Kaushal emphasized the role of the industries and commerce department in regulating the burning of industrial waste. The transition to clean fuel sources has been a pivotal move to mitigate industrial pollution. Overall, Haryana's multi-faceted approach underscores its determination to address air quality concerns comprehensively and sustainably.
